Applications:
In 2025, we are continuing our partnership with JustFOOD and are excited to be stewarding three food-focused grant streams for community organizations and groups. Please note all grants have closed for 2025.

Feed Nova Scotia Prototype Grant Stream:
This stream of work is focused on supporting community-led work to try new or innovative ideas to address food insecurity and to learn about what works, what doesn’t, and why.
Applications for the 2025 cycle are now closed. Please check back in early 2026 for future opportunities.

Feed Nova Scotia Adaptation Grant Stream:
This stream of work is focused on supporting the scale out of two successful ideas from our 2023 grant cycle: a Caja container growing project and a frozen soup distribution project. A toolkit has been developed for each of these initiatives, serving as guides for any group interested in adapting one of the ideas to fit their context.

Applications for the 2025 cycle are now closed. Please check back in early 2026 for future opportunities.

The JustFOOD Community Grant Stream:
This stream of work is funded by JustFOOD and focuses on community-based initiatives that advance the goal of a more healthy, just, and resilient local food system, with increased food justice and sovereignty. This stream is available to community organizations and projects that are located and operate within the Halifax Regional Municipality only.
Applications for the 2025 cycle are now closed. Please check back in early 2026 for future opportunities.

There is currently no limit on the number of applications an organization can submit.
Applicants can apply to both streams with the same idea if their idea meets the eligibility criteria of both funding streams. However, no application will be funded by both streams of funding: if an application is assessed to be a strong fit for both streams of funding, Feed Nova Scotia and JustFOOD will coordinate to determine which fund the application will be supported by.
The scope of work that could fall under ‘innovation’ includes developing a program, service, product or process that is new to Nova Scotia; bringing together existing pieces of work to create something new; or scaling a program or service already happening in one community to a new context. If you think you have an idea that falls into this scope, we encourage you to apply.
When we are assessing applications we receive, we will be bringing project concepts to our First Voice Advisory for their reaction and feedback. This will be one point of input to our overall assessment.
We know that some of our advisory members may have current relationships or past experiences with organizations that may result in bias or conflict of interest. We are committed to ensuring the integrity of the process, so organization names or specific locations of proposed projects will not revealed to the group.
No, under our ineligible expenses, we have identified costs incurred prior to funding approval.
Yes, we will make this information publicly available.
This goal is around individual organizations and players in the food system coming together to collaborate, share resources, build collective capacity and coordination for greater impact. It could mean developing shared tools or ways to share data and coordinate services, sharing resources and more.
