Grant Opportunities

Based on feedback recieved after engaging with a wide range of organizations and community groups across the province, Feed Nova Scotia developed and designed a dedicated funding stream for organizations with innovative ideas. Alignment with the needs and realities of organizations, along with accessibility, were a priority when creating the process. Feed Nova Scotia grants are now in their fourth year, and we can’t wait to see what 2026 will bring!

In 2026, we are excited to be stewarding two food-focused grant streams for community organizations and groups. Please note that applications close on February 27th at 11:59 pm.

PROTOTYPE GRANT

This stream of work is focused on supporting community-led initiatives that test new ideas and approaches to tackling food insecurity across Nova Scotia.

In 2025, we ran a third cycle of our grant to support 12 innovative community projects, and continued a partnership with JustFOOD, who contributed funding to support additional HRM projects that align with recommendations in the JustFOOD Action Plan for the Halifax Region.

We also launched a new stream of funding to support organizations to scale one of two successful initiatives from our 2023 grant cycle: the Caja Container Growing Project and the Frozen Soup Distribution Project. Toolkits were developed for each initiative to serve as practical guides for any group interested in adapting these ideas to their own context.

Feed Nova Scotia and the network of members are located in Mi’kma’ki, the ancestral and unceded territory of the Mi’kmaq Peoples, and we acknowledge them as past, present, and future caretakers of this land. This territory is covered by the “Treaties of Peace and Friendship” which Mi’kmaq, Wəlastəkwiyik (Maliseet), and Passamaquoddy Peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725. We are all Treaty people.

We acknowledge that African Nova Scotians have existed and persisted on the traditional land of the Mi’kmaq for more than 400 hundred years and their significant presence has contributed to the existence of Nova Scotia.

We are grateful to live and work in Mi’kma’ki.
