Passing of Ron Hanlon
Joint statement from Chris MacIntyre, Chair of the Board of Directors, and Nick Jennery, Executive Director
It was with a mixture of shock and sadness that we learned this week of the passing of our friend and Board colleague, Ron Hanlon.
Ron joined Feed Nova Scotia's Board of Directors in June 2017, and we quickly came to appreciate his practical and solutions-oriented way of thinking, and the intellectual rigor and curiosity that he brought to our discussion of the increasing challenges presented by food insecurity in Nova Scotia.
Although he was on the Board for just under a year, Ron made a number of significant contributions that will help shape the organization’s direction moving forward. In particular, he provided important input to the Board in its assessment of the move to a new facility in Burnside, and he was a key contributor to the Board’s strategic planning exercise undertaken in the early part of 2018.
Ron brought to our Board leadership and vision, and a wise, experienced perspective that we are going to miss deeply. We are so very appreciative of the opportunity to know Ron and to work with him. His tenure with us, though brief, will have a lasting impact. On behalf of the Board of Directors and all of the staff of Feed Nova Scotia, our sincerest condolences go out to his wife Greta and his family, as well as his colleagues at the Halifax Partnership.
