Is volunteer training provided?
Absolutely. Depending on the role you sign up for, there are different levels of training available at the beginning of your first shift, and ongoing support from staff and other volunteers.

We would always welcome the opportunity to work with a student during their placement, however, there are not always opportunities available. Get in touch with us and we can discuss any current or upcoming opportunities with you, or chat about any ideas that you may have!
Absolutely! We often welcome groups into the warehouse; it’s a great team building activity. Shifts are available Monday through Friday, 9am-12pm or 1pm-4pm with the exception of Monday mornings and Friday afternoons when we are doing inventory. We can currently accommodate groups of up to 10 people. We typically recommend planning a month or two in advance to make sure we can fit you and your group into the schedule.
Yes...and no. We ask staff and volunteers not to wear any perfumes, colognes or other scented products. But because of some of the products we receive (detergents, soaps, etc.), there is a chance there will be scents in the air, specifically in our warehouses.
Parking can be tricky around our 67 Wright Avenue facilities, please allow yourself time to find parking. Volunteers and visitors can usually find spots listed on our public parking map (.pdf).
Unfortunately, we're only open for volunteering Monday to Friday during business hours. But there are special events during evenings and weekends that require lots of volunteers. This might be the perfect opportunity for you.
We do our best to keep our schedules flexible, so we can work to find the right role for you! If you’re interested in working in the warehouse, we do a regularly-scheduled number of volunteers, who float between various roles, wherever the most need is. Email us at volunteer@feednovascotia.ca and we’d be happy to chat with you about your options!
To volunteer in our warehouse, you must be 18 years or older to do so on your own. If you are between the ages of 16 and 17, you can volunteer on your own, but we require a signed consent form from a parent or guardian. For special events, we welcome volunteers between the ages of 12 and 15 years old, but they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
