Volunteer drivers needed

We're so glad you're here, because we need your help!

Volunteer drivers are a critical piece of our operation. They help us get food support from our facility and into the hands of those who need it most. With their generous donation of time and talent, our drivers make it possible for thousands of Nova Scotians to receive much-needed food support. They play a front-line role in our network, and we need them now more than ever!

We are currently looking to fill three volunteer driver positions:

Food box home delivery driver
The food box home delivery driver is responsible for making deliveries to people’s homes, while adhering to safety standards and provincial regulations regarding social distancing and hygiene protocol. Tasks include:

  • Picking up food boxes from a central hub and loading them into your vehicle
  • Informing food box recipients of delivery times
  • Delivering the food boxes to recipient's homes
  • Communicating with the hub coordinator about the success of deliveries

Food box home delivery drivers are needed in Halifax Regional Municipality, Cape Breton Regional Municipality, and the Valley region. You need to have access to a reliable vehicle. You must also provide a criminal record check, which Feed Nova Scotia will pay for. The schedule is flexible week to week.

Food bank delivery driver
Volunteer food bank delivery drivers collect food donations from donors and distribute donations to local and provincial member agencies. Tasks include:

  • Picking up and delivering food donations
  • Loading and offloading vehicles
  • Wrapping pallets

Volunteer food bank delivery drivers need to have Class 3 or Class 1 license and 5+ years of driving experience at this level. We have ongoing, weekly routes that need support. Routes start and end at Feed Nova Scotia in Burnside.

Driver's assistants
Some of our routes can get busy so having someone support the drivers with deliveries is really important. This role accompanies drivers on regular, ongoing routes. Tasks include assisting with:

  • Picking up and delivering food donations
  • Loading and offloading vehicles
  • Wrapping pallets

No license is necessary. Assistants would be travelling in Feed Nova Scotia trucks. We have ongoing, weekly routes that need support. Routes start and end at Feed Nova Scotia in Burnside.
